Cardinal Aveline: “Every Religion Legitimately [!] Considers Itself True”

"Every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth," Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, Archbishop of Marseille and president of the French Bishops' Conference, said in an interview on Avvenire.it on August 5.
Talking about Marseille's religious diversity [where Arabic has long become the dominant language], Cardinal Aveline described the coexistence of Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, and Christians as a theological challenge: "We did not invent the plurality of religions, nor the fact that every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth."
On the Church's catholicity, Aveline claims: "The Creed we recite every Sunday embodies the Church's vocation to catholicity. If I had been born in China, I would have been Confucian; in Japan, Shinto."
He argued that the Church's catholicity means recognizing "the desire for God in the hearts of women and men of every religion."
Citing the Second Vatican Council, he said the Holy Spirit offers everyone "the possibility of being …Më shumë

The Real Reason Behind Trump’s Yen Intervention

By Eswar Prasad
Dr. Prasad is a professor at Cornell University and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.
It’s rare for the United States to intervene in another country’s currency policy. It usually happens because there is a crisis. But in recent cases involving Argentina, Japan and the United Arab Emirates, none of those countries had reached the level of emergency usually required.
In all three the Trump administration has directly supported or offered support for their currencies. Why would the administration do this? After all, it seems risky and expensive to buy another country’s currency or even offer to temporarily swap dollars for that currency, especially one whose value is falling.
None of these actions were born of benevolence. The administration has U.S. economic interests in mind but is also keen to propagate its policies and reward its …Më shumë

Novus Ordo Goes to the Dogs: On 26 June, a video of a Eucharistic celebration at the Santo Domingo Savio parish in Villavicencio, Colombia, went viral after two dogs started howling along with Rev. Carlos Mario Peña Lopera as he sang a hymn. The dogs, Simón and Luna, are strays that the priest took in and who now regularly accompany him at Eucharists, often sitting near the altar. According to Rev. Peña Lopera, Luna had not previously joined in the howling alongside Simón. The priest continued the hymn without interruption.

Spanish Archdiocese Distances Itself After Priest Calls for Conversion of Morocco

The Archdiocese of Pamplona and Tudela, Spain, has distanced itself on August 5 from comments by one of its priests after he called for the "reconquest of Morocco and its conversion to Christianity" following the invasion into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
In a statement, the archdiocese said Rev. Javier Aizpún's remarks were "strictly personal opinions" that "neither represent nor are shared in any way by this diocesan Church."
The controversy stemmed from a post on X.com in which Aizpún, parish priest of San Juan Evangelista in Huarte and a canon of Pamplona Cathedral, wrote: "May Our Lady of Africa, patron saint of Ceuta, inspire the reconquest of Morocco and its conversion to Christianity. May we finish what Queen Isabella the Catholic left undone."
In subsequent posts, he also called for Spain to "bombard Rabat" and "open fire if necessary" in response to the mass crossing of invaders into Ceuta.
Archbishop Florencio Roselló sought an explanation from Rev. Aizpún, describing the …Më shumë

Ye all shelter yourselves under the hope of God's mercy, which ye say is so great ; and ye consider not that this very goodness of God will rise up in judgment against you for having opposed the will of so good a Master: His mercy ought to constrain you to do all His Will, and not encourage you to do evil. Bishop Emerged from Hiding to Consecrate a Church – Bishop Schneider

Bishop Athanasius Schneider recalled his childhood in the underground Church of the Soviet Union during a talk in Cobh, Ireland, on August 3, AdVaticanum.com reports.
“There were times when we had gatherings like this, but we had to close the windows and the doors because we were checked by the secret police, and we had to hide priests.”
He recounted the story of Bishop Alexander Chira (1897-1983), a clandestine Greek Catholic bishop whom Soviet authorities urged “not to deny Christ, but only to become Orthodox,” thereby breaking communion with Rome.
“He refused,” Bishop Schneider said, and, as a consequence, he was imprisoned in “several concentration camps called gulags.”
Afterward, Bishop Chira lived under house arrest in Karaganda, concealing his identity as a bishop to avoid being sent back. “He could not reveal his identity as a bishop,” Bishop Schneider said. “Otherwise, he would be sent back. So he could only say to the people, ‘I am Father Alexander.’”

Leo XIV Promotes Archbishop Who Backed Vaccine Mandates and Praised Bad Bunny

Today, Leo XIV has appointed Monsignor Eusebio Ramos Morales, 73, until now Bishop of Caguas, as the new Metropolitan Archbishop of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
He was ordained a priest in 1983 after completing studies in philosophy and theology in Puerto Rico, Mexico, the United States and Rome.
He has served as a parish priest, seminary rector, professor of dogmatic theology, Bishop of Fajardo-Humacao from 2008 to 2017, and Bishop of Caguas since 2017.
In 2024, he became President of the Puerto Rican Episcopal Conference.
The Puerto Rican bishops adopted one of the world's most restrictive implementations of Traditionis Custodes (2021), ending all Masses in the Roman rite on the island.

Leo XIV Commissioned Vestments by Homosexual for August Liturgies

Leo XIV will wear liturgical vestments by his homosexual tailor Filippo Sorcinelli, 51, during the celebrations today in Assisi and on 22 August in Rimini. Sorcinelli said this in an interview with Corriere.it on 2 August.
The Assisi vestments draw inspiration from 13th- and 14th-century paintings of the Porziuncola, while the Rimini vestments, created for a Eucharist by the sea, feature porthole motifs symbolizing water as the source of life.
Sorcinelli says every papal vestment is designed specifically for the place and liturgy in which it will be used.
He first met the future pope when he was still a cardinal, fitting him with a mitre presented by Augustinian confreres from Vienna. Sorcinelli says he later saw the same mitre reappear after Prevost's election as pope.
Leo XIV's election helped Sorcinelli overcome a deep existential crisis. After more than a decade designing vestments for Pope Francis, Sorcinelli had considered leaving liturgical design to focus on organ music and his …Më shumë

Belgian Trappist Sisters Close Their Abbey

The Trappist sisters of Notre-Dame de Brialmont Abbey in Tilff, in the Diocese of Liège, Belgium, celebrated a Eucharist of thanksgiving on 25 July before leaving the abbey after 65 years at the site.
The Eucharist was celebrated by Bishop Jean-Pierre Delville of Liège together with Dom Xavier Frisque, abbot of Orval and the superior responsible for the Brialmont community.
Only six sisters remain in the community. The Order announced in February 2026 that the abbey would close because of the sisters' advanced age, declining numbers and the absence of new vocations.
Pope John Paul II paid a private visit to the abbey in 1985.
The Diocese of Liège said a new ecological, social and spiritual project for the site is being developed in partnership with Orval Abbey and other local partners.

St. Thomas Aquinas and the Socialists

– Folha de S. Paulo, February 22, 1984 –
by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
A BRAZILIAN friend of mine in Spain — actually one of that country’s most ardent admirers — sent me some news of what is going on under the present socialist government.
It was no surprise for one who knows the mentality, doctrine and program of the majority PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party), because Spanish socialism (like its French counterpart) strives to destroy the family in every possible way. Divorce, the “depenalization” of homosexuality and of abortion in many circumstances, and the promotion of contraception are key points in the PSOE’s activity.
My friend wrote me:
“Immorality in Spain has really grown in the last few years. This winter all the billboards are terribly immoral, and you cannot imagine what the TV programs are like. The ambience in the schools has also reached a climax of immorality. What you see in the streets are scenes of unbridled immorality. In short, immorality has a green light …Më shumë
