Leo XIV Appoints Neocatechumenal Bishop - Praised By "Female Bishop"
Born on 15 August 1966, he was ordained a priest on 4 October 1992 and incardinated in his home diocese of Pereira.
Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Buenaventura in June 2017.
Celebrant of Flatbread Eucharists
Bishop Jaramillo has close ties to the Neocatechumenal Way.
Prior to becoming bishop, he co-authored a study examining the movement’s social impact in his home diocese.
When he was appointed bishop in 2017, Spanish Catholic media outlets described him as “coming from the Neocatechumenal Way”.
One of their seminaries claimed that his “vocation was born inside the Neocatechumenal Way”.
Furthermore, Bishop Jaramillo celebrated several Eucharists for the Neocatechumenal Way, using flatbread and large chalices (see pictures below). These Eucharists constitute liturgical abuses involving large loaves of unleavened bread. The big chalice is usually passed among the faithful.
Praised by Homosexuals
The homosexual website CristianosGays.com has praised Bishop Jaramillo.
The favourable tone appears not for antiCatholic statments but is connected to his public actions against violence, his denunciations of organised crime and his visible pastoral presence in marginalised neighbourhoods.
Praised by "Female Bishop"
In August 2017, the excommunicated 'Catholic woman bishop' Olga Lucía Álvarez wrote on ArcwpAmericaDelSur.wordpress.com about an encounter with Bishop Jaramillo, using warm and affirming language. She described him as "a young man full of enthusiasm, of great human quality and closeness with the people".
She also expressed her support and prayers for him and his ministry.
Prayer for "the followers of all religions"
On 31 July 2021, the bishop published a prayer on ElPais.com.co which included the following interreligious line:
"Lord of Heaven and Earth, Creator of the one human family, we ask you to bless the followers of all religions. May they seek your will in prayer and with pure hearts, adoring and glorifying your Holy Name."
Post Scriptum
Bishop Jaramillo also used the strange cross bearing the supposed symbol of the Good Shepherd with crossed arms. It was also used by Francis and can be traced back to the pro-homosexual Cardinal Louis Bernardin (1928–1996) of Chicago.
